How do I access EDAS ?

The EGNOS Commercial Data Dissemination Service (CDDS) is the first tangible EGNOS service being provided. The European GNSS Agency (GSA) together with the European Commission, DG Enterprise, aims at providing support to users that want to connect to the EGNOS Data Access Server (EDAS). Additionally, a helpdesk service is available to aid in the first connection and in the daily EDAS data usage.

At least during 2010, private and public organizations, industry and research institutes can access freely to EDAS and utilize its data. Inputs and feedback are being used to set up a future EDAS Service Provision model.

A dedicated EDAS Helpdesk will be the one-stop point of reference to allow to users request connectivity to EDAS data providing connection support, download area, answering user requests, unavailability notices, technical support. From now on it will also be possible to address EDAS questions related to EGNOS to the helpdesk.

Access to the EDAS data is possible by one of the two following means:
  • Internet connection allowing full transmission of all data on best-effort basis (no latency and data integrity guarantee)
  • Higher performance point-to-point (PTP) direct link to the EDAS server, for example based on MPLS or Frame relay. In this case every user would assume the whole cost of the link
The standard and easiest way to receive EDAS is over the internet. Simply by downloading the client software EDAS can be received through a typical broadband internet connection, where:
  • ASN.1 format service requires 600kb/s
  • RTCM format service requires 300kb/s
  • Both formats can be received at 900kb/s

It is possible to obtain a dedicated faster connection. This will include a fixed line solution providing a dedicated line for each user. The costs for introducing the fixed line solution to EDAS need to be covered by the user, but we will provide assistance and support in setting up the connection

Step-by-step

In order to be accepted as an EDAS user, please follow these steps:

  1. Read the Conditions of Use
  2. Download the free Information Package
  3. Fill out and submit the Application Form
  4. Following approval, you will be given full access to the EDAS Helpdesk, client software and support
